Sustainability day – report

On Thursday, November 11th, 2010 Urgenda () organised an ‘eleven cities tour’ for electric cars from all over the Netherlands to Almere. All cars were supposed to gather on a secondary road just outside the city and move in a single column to Almere’s city hall where we would receive a big welcome – at least according to the organisation. Read on to find out how the day really went. I had a great time, but it really was one of the most bizarre days I’ve ever experienced…

Sustainability Day

Tomorrow, November 11th, 2010, is Sustainability Day (). Throughout the Netherlands many activities will be organised, and one of these activities is an eleven-cities-tour () for electric vehicles. I see that one of the ‘sub-tours’ will come through Utrecht, not far from where I work, so I might grab my camera and go over for a quick peek.

I have to work tomorrow, so I have no special activities planned for this day. I’ll just go to work (without a car, as always), our solar panels will produce electricity (as always) and when we’re not at home everything in our home is unplugged (as always) – so for us it’s just going to be a very normal, sustainable day.

-update-

Sometimes things go differently than planned. Tomorrow I’ll drive a Tazzari Zero for part of the tour! It’s the same Zero () which I test drove at the beginning of October 2010. It’s going to be fun!

Schoner Vervoer Toer postponed

Uitgesteld...

I was browsing through my Youtube-movies today when my eye caught the movies I made about the Schoner Vervoer Toer (‘Cleaner Transport Tour’) in 2007, 2008 en 2009. That reminded me that I had heard nothing about a 2010 Schoner Vervoer Toer. For a moment I was afraid I’d missed it, but a quick peek at their website () taught me that it was cancelled for 2010 and is planned for the spring of 2011.

I sent the organisation an e-mail asking why the Toer was postponed, I’m curious about that. I really enjoyed the event in the previous years so I really hope it is held normally in the coming years.

Second test drive in a Tazzari Zero

Tazzari Zero

On Saturday, October 23rd, the Organisatie voor Duurzame Energie has her yearly general assembly, after which the section built environment will visit our house. Last week I made a  test drive in a Tazzari Zero. Two sentences about two seemingly unrelated things. What do they have to do with each other?

Sometimes storylines come together without any effort at all. MisterGreen, a importer of the Zero, saw that I had test driven this car and offered me to drive one of their models on October 23rd. Unfortunately, this coincided with the ODE general assembly. When I mentioned that to MisterGreen they immediately and generously offered me to take the Zero for the entire day so I could take it so the general assembly.

Of course, that’s a very attractive offer which I happily accepted! So, if you’re an ODE member, you should come to the general assembly anyway (it’s important for the association and also the sustainable office building in Bussum promises to be very interesting) but if yo uwant to see the Zero in real life you should surely attend.

Test drive Tazzari Zero

Tazzari Zero

Translation is in progress

Arno Claasen of The Good Car Company () kindly offered me a test drive in a Tazzari Zero on October 8th, 2010. In this article I’ll describe my experiences during that test drive. We drove on all kinds of roads, from the Amsterdam city centre to secondary roads and the motorway, too. This give me a good impression of the properties of the car under different circumstances.

Can this compact Italian two-seater participate in the upcoming market for electric cars? Read on about my experiences.

Test drive Tazzari Zero

Tazzari Zero

Friday, October 8th, I will make a test drive in a  Tazzari Zero (). This is an electric car with some remarkable features.

It’s reasonably affordable, the base price is around € 23500, while cars like the Th!nk and the i-MiEV cost just below € 40000. Furthermore, this little car is extremely light; its curb weight is only 542 kg, which is about half of the Th!nks weight (1040 kg). The light weight alone makes this car a lot friendlier for truly sustainable road users like cyclists and pedestrians.

Of course there’ll be an extensive article after the test drive. The car is made available to me by the Good Car Company ().
